Compare flat screens: LCD screens from 22 to 30 inches

The display market has further evolved. The 22-inch LCD is becoming a standard entry level, those who want quality, innovation, true comfort, will have to turn to screens 23 inches or more. LCD Monitors Buying Guide

The monitor is the man - machine interface of choice, which restores the device visually everything is running on the computer. There are plenty of references for different types of uses: video games, office, photography or film. To help you quickly identify the monitor for you, we've put together a selection of products by categories.

There has been little change since the last guide dating from November 2010. Especially in the category of monitors for moviegoers, almost unchanged. However, we greatly refreshed the categories of "office" and "video games" with models in all very recent. And class "picture" that had failed in many of you is back here! The selection criteria are basically the same. For office, we focused ergonomic models (height adjustment, rotating base, pivot function of the panel, USB ports ...), often green. For the video game, quick screens remain the key. Refresh rate of 120 Hz is required for access to 3D, a response time of between 2 and 3 ms is required to obtain a clear image in motion. Film fans will opt for their part in a large screen, if possible with IPS LCD panels type most appropriate to movie watching (less than tingling, wider viewing angles, but much more expensive). Finally, for photographers, from amateurs to experienced, it is a true color screen that broadcasts a uniform display.

Small final note to clarify that our usual selection was made, for most models, based on assessments based on product specifications, and not extensive testing. It is not a comparison but a guide to action.

What are the 100 Hz and 200 Hz? How to have a perfectly smooth?
On plasma TVs, 100 Hz is used to reduce image flicker. On the LCD TV is different: the 100 Hz reduce the afterglow (see box) during rapid movements. At 200 Hz the remanence is completely undetectable.

In addition to the 100 Hz or 200 Hz modes are added occasionally to reduce jerkiness, called Motionflow (Sony), HDNM (HD Natural Motion Philips), Movie Plus (Samsung), the TruMotion (LG) ... to calculate all the intermediate images to images of the original film. HDTV Ready displays at least 720 lines, while a full HD displays at least 1080 lines. And 1080 lines, it is precisely the definition used by the TNT HD and Blu-ray. We must therefore choose what type of TV to enjoy HD, true!

We recommend the course of 1080 TV lines, especially since they are now very affordable. The models offer 720 lines tend to disappear gradually.

Should we believe the number of contrasts announced? No!
You can simply ignore the number of contrasts announced by the manufacturers. It is calculated in terms of optimizing this measure, far from ideal conditions to watch a movie. For example, the contrast of a TV announced in 1000 drops to around 000:1 to 2000:1 1000 with the settings to display the best image.
Still, the increase in numbers in the range of a manufacturer can compare the quality of models it offers. These figures are of course incomparable from one manufacturer to another. Rely instead on our measurements.

Plasma or LCD?
It is clear that the LCD is on the rise and alone accounts for the overwhelming majority of TVs sold. The plasma is exceeded this mean? No, absolutely not! Audio, video and photo:
While many now offer TV playback of photos or music contained in USB sticks or SD cards, very few among them can read all formats videos.
