A clear and accessible to all the technical terms to consider when buying a new TV. Beginners welcome!
You do not understand anything about modern TV? 100 Hz, 1080p, LCD, Plasma ... are abstract terms that are part of a jungle where you get lost? Do not worry, our comparison of television is here to guide you if you want to scan the whole market.
Otherwise, to answer your questions and go straight to the point, you can visit the buying guide that contains the selection of models that we prefer.
What are the 100 Hz and 200 Hz? How to have a perfectly smooth?
On plasma TVs, 100 Hz is used to reduce image flicker. On the LCD TV is different: the 100 Hz reduce the afterglow (see box) during rapid movements. At 200 Hz the remanence is completely undetectable.
In addition to the 100 Hz or 200 Hz modes are added occasionally to reduce jerkiness, called Motionflow (Sony), HDNM (HD Natural Motion Philips), Movie Plus (Samsung), the TruMotion (LG) ... to calculate all the intermediate images to images of the original film. These systems are essential for those who are allergic to the slightest twitch. They sometimes create a video effect that repels some, but it is still possible to disable them.
Finally, the 100 Hz (or more) is an essential but not sufficient, to watch TV in 3D.
Définition HD Ready ou Full HD ?
HDTV Ready displays at least 720 lines, while a full HD displays at least 1080 lines. And 1080 lines, it is precisely the definition used by the TNT HD and Blu-ray. We must therefore choose what type of TV to enjoy HD, true!
We recommend the course of 1080 TV lines, especially since they are now very affordable. The models offer 720 lines tend to disappear gradually.
Should we believe the number of contrasts announced? No!
You can simply ignore the number of contrasts announced by the manufacturers. It is calculated in terms of optimizing this measure, far from ideal conditions to watch a movie. For example, the contrast of a TV announced in 1000 drops to around 000:1 to 2000:1 1000 with the settings to display the best image.
Still, the increase in numbers in the range of a manufacturer can compare the quality of models it offers. These figures are of course incomparable from one manufacturer to another. Rely instead on our measurements.
Plasma or LCD?
It is clear that the LCD is on the rise and alone accounts for the overwhelming majority of TVs sold. The plasma is exceeded this mean? No, absolutely not! It even presents some arguments against the LCD viewing angles ultra-large, excellent color matching, an image very soft and natural, dense blacks, and a price often below the LCD of the same quality. For these reasons, they often favor with home-movie fans - the home cinema freaks in search of the perfect image. However, they sometimes suffer from marking the slab when they leave a still image for too long. Their use is not recommended with computers. The latest generations pass, however, well with game consoles
In contrast, the LCD viewing angles suffers from closer and let in some light through the dark when it shifts the axis of the screen. In addition, only good quality LCD offers a level of black dense. Indeed, residues of light always manage to cross the LCD crystals where they should be black.
They are, however, insensitive to the mark and go great with game consoles and computers. TV Full HD 26-inch or 32 is also wonderful for use''flexible TV / PC monitor.''
Audio, video and photo:
While many now offer TV playback of photos or music contained in USB sticks or SD cards, very few among them can read all formats videos. Some read perfectly Divx SD and HD, and even offers the ability to resynchronize subtitles offset. The best models even read much of the HD formats, often compressed AVC-HD.
